AS GOOD AS IT GETS
Redcar Squash were given VIP status for the day at this year's British Open, the squash equivalent of Wimbledon . All this was in recognition of Redcar having won the England Squash Development Club of the Year Award, something assessed against all aspects of a club including range of teams, junior section, open access, community links, social, administration and many other criteria.

The award was made between the two mens' semi-final matches on the main tournament court and as a great surprise, it was presented by the best squash player of all time, Jahinger Kahn:
HISTORIC JUNIOR COUNTY RESULTS
Redcar juniors enjoyed their greatest ever success at the county finals weekends recently winning overall titles in three ages groups outright and returning with nine trophies overall. Possibly even more pleasing was the number of juniors entering the competition for the first time.
Redcar winners then were:
U11 COUNTY CHAMPION : JOE DALE
U13 BOYS COUNTY CHAMPION : LUKE MABBOTT
U13 BOYS PLATE WINNER: JOE DALE
U15 BOYS PLATE WINNER: JAMES WASS
U17 GIRLS COUNTY CHAMPION : GEMMA HILL
U17 GIRLS RUNNER UP: LOUISE MAWSON
U19 BOYS PLATE WINNER: JOSH BROWN
U19 BOYS PLATE RUNNERUP: LIAM WASS
U19 GIRLS PLATE RUNNERUP: GEMMA HILL
The BLITZ - end Sep 07
The squash section just held it\'s first tournament of the 2007/08 season, the Blitz. This is a team event comprising 5 players per team of all abilities provided they play in the internal leagues.
The competition is held over just the one night and completes in just over 2 hours. The final boiled down to the very last match which pitted Mark Wass against son Liam with Liam needing not only to win but to ensure his dad scored less than 9 points across 2 games, American scoring to 10.
Things started very well for Liam but Mark calmly discarded all notion of parental care and knocked off 7 points in the first game leaving too much for Liam to do in the last.
2007/08 BLITZ
The first tournament of the year went very well with entry numbers now having reached such levels as to be restricted to ensure time enough was allowed for people to enjoy the Race Night afterwards. This raised just under £600 and thanks go to all the organisers especially John Campbell and Simon Mawson.

The winning team is photoed and not surprisingly comprises two of the Hill family since the teams were selected by Dominic Hill. Who also selected the teams last year. And who was also part of the winning team he picked last year.
